Plymouth Birchlers Update

So we've finally gotten updated to the new Blogger here in Plymouth and it looks like we have some catching up to do.

For the next week, it's officially unhockey season. No one is playing, including the Red Wings, but Zane's high school summer league should start up in a couple weeks and Vaughn has tryouts next weekend. Zane had a great season playing goalie for Canton high school. It was a little rocky due to the 14 sophomores on the team but they did better than expected and should have a lot to look forward to next season. Here's a picture of the tallest goalie in the Western Lakes Athletic Conference.

We skipped town for a week in March and went to DisneyWorld, courtesy of our hard-working Edward Jones rep, who won a trip for us. It was my first trip to DisneyWorld, having lived a very deprived childhood. Just by coincidence, it was ESPN The Weekend the first couple days we were there. No, we did not plan it. But we could have saved a lot of money had we known the kids would be perfectly happy to shoot free throws, kick soccer balls, throw baseballs and race all comers to first base in the ESPN SportsZone while other kids went on rollercoasters, met Mickey Mouse and watched laser shows.

I really enjoyed Epcot. Vaughn did a hat tour of Epcot. Sorry-I don't know how to flip these.
We found a little restaurant that had awesome desserts. Yes, Bryn ate the whole thing.

Now baseball/softball is in full swing (ha ha--for Jimmy). Zane played JV but just got called up to varsity for the district playoffs. He took over the catcher spot when the other 2 guys broke bones and did a marvelous job and is still in one piece. The coaching staff has been impressed. Vaughn is still playing for the Canton Cardinals (follow the team here). And Bryn has rejoined the Thunderbirds fastpitch 10U team. Those softball people have more tournaments than the boys' teams. Better food, too.

Of course, all this outdoors stuff is about the worst thing for me, having had a melanoma removed recently. Thanks for all the prayers; it looks like everything is fine but I have to get frequent freckle checks for the next couple years. Considering the surface area and number of freckles involved, it doesn't take nearly as long as you'd think it would. I've got a lot of 55 helioplex sunscreen, a big sunscreen umbrella and a hat. Maybe next time I'll post a picture of my scar.

Mother's Day

Hi Family,

Mom and I had a nice visit with Grandma for Mother's Day. We played some cards and got the giggles. We tried to go shopping, but we all hate it! Pete joined us for breakfast on Sunday morning and Tom stopped by a bit later.

We also got to visit with Margie, Clare, and Leah. Clare and I did a lot of swinging at Grandma's.

I brought my camera, but I didn't break it out much. Here's a good shot from Mother's Day:

Love to all,

May Flowers

Hi Family,

I just completed my first gardening project. I have gardened with Mom before but I've never done one on my own. Agnes, our landlady, passed away over a year ago and she used to keep our garden nice. Last year, it did not get any attention. So this year, I called up our new landlords (Agnes' daughter and son-in-law) and asked if I could plant some flowers.

Here's what it looked like when I started yesterday. LOTS of weeds and junk.

Here's what it looked like after I weeded and cleaned up - which took 4 1/2 hours!

And here's what it looks like planted!

Gardening is fun!

Hope all are well. I'll be visiting Grandma for Mother's Day, so maybe I'll see you then.
